How can I get my device (computer, tablet, smartphone) repaired?

VERY IMPORTANT – ALWAYS  HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR DATA BEFORE REPAIRING YOUR DEVICE!  

Having a backup of your device’s data in your Dropbox/icloud/Google Drive/One Drive or USB storage (preferably encrypted) is highly recommended. 

DEVICES WITHIN THEIR WARRANTY PERIOD

If your device is still within its warranty period, please contact the device manufacturer for support. Check the support page of their website for contact information It might be quicker to check online forums, articles or Youtube for quick fixes to your problem –  BUT PLEASE BE CAREFUL. YOU MAY CAUSE MORE DAMAGE IF YOU ARE NOT CAREFUL. 

DEVICES WITH AN EXPIRED WARRANTY PERIOD

Check their online ratings - Visit a few shops and ask for quotes to compare. Don’t settle for the first shop you visit. Also, consider how long the repair will take before committing to the repair. 

SPARE COMPUTERS 

Please contact your university who may be able to lend you a computer. 

Remember, always backup your data while you use the loan laptop. 

Check your university has a procedure to wipe the laptop when you return it.
